We visited this cafe thinking that the cafe is set up to look like a science laboratory and the food to look like the experiments. But to our surprise, it was not exactly what we pictured.
When we first arrived, our eyes were caught by the huge Walter White graffiti on the wall. The inside of the cafe gave a more industrial, rustic feel with most of the furniture being either wooden or metal.
They definitely live up to the name of a hipster cafe with the interesting displays of metal pipes and olden day equipments. The music played there were also pleasing to our ears as they are modern songs which some of us may be familiar with. The indoor seating was nice and cozy with the slightly dimmed orange lights, while the seating outside was in an alley which gave off a cooler vibe. We arrived at around 4pm on a weekday afternoon and there was no crowd, just a few customers enjoying a meal.
Although they still serve some dishes with the “science” feel to it, we later found out the name of the shop came about because of the experiments they do on food.
After the staff sat us at our table he told us that they were having a monthly special Salted Egg Yolk spaghetti and we knew we had to try it. They offer a Lunch Treat from Monday to Friday – 12pm to 4.30pm where you can order any Bao Slider/Sandwich/Pasta and get a FREE Daily Concoction. There were three choices of concoction: Apple Lemon Tea, Lime Orange Lychee and Water My Lime. We decided on Water My Lime which like the name suggest, was mix of watermelon and lime. The two fruits complimented each other perfectly which made the drink refreshing, cooling and simply delicious!
For the Salted Egg Yolk Pasta we were given the choice of Chicken/Prawn and spiciness level. The pasta tasted pretty good other than the fact that it didn’t taste much like salted egg yolk. It was more garlicy but nonetheless, a good plate of spaghetti. However, we thought that the pasta could have a better presentation rather than just being slapped on the plate.
And of course, we ordered their specialty, the Rainbow Waffle. It is a buttermilk waffle topped with Tutti Frutti Ice Cream, Colourful Piring Wafer, Gem biscuits and Stripped Cotton Candy, drizzled with strawberry puree. This dessert has our childhood snacks all over it and the colours makes it look fun and definitely ‘Instagrammable’. The waffle was fluffy and fragrant and the gem biscuits tucks nicely into each of the pockets. The cotton candy also adds a nice little sweetness on the waffles. Overall an enjoyable dessert for both our eyes and tummy!
This place is somewhere one can enjoy a nice afternoon just chilling with their friends.
