Dubbed as the ‘evil twin’ of A Poke Theory, Alter Ego is an establishment serving carefully curated dishes and craft beers at the Esplanade. Founded by brother and sister duo Vannessa and Joey Lee, Alter Ego is THE place to be right now. Check out what we tried during our visit!
The selection of craft beers here is extensive and you’ll definitely be spoiled for choice when looking through the drinks menu. To help you with this, we’ve narrowed it down to some of our top favourites that are worth a try the next time you’re hanging with friends!
IPA beer, short for Indian Pale Ale is especially known for its earthy and woody taste. IPA leans more towards the bitter side but expect an array of flavours within your first gulp. This beer is definitely worth a try and get’s two thumbs up in our book!
Fat Yak falls into the sweeter category as far as beers go. With a fruity and herbaceous aroma, Fat Yak is an easy beer to stomach and leaves your palate feeling fresh and cleased.
You may have heard of Brothers Toffee Apple cider but they’re lesser known flavour – coconut and lime is just as good, if not even better. The coconut and lime mixture was not too sweet, a perfect drink to pair with bar bites! Definitely order this light and refreshing cider if you’re in the mood for something to sip on through the night.
If you absolutely love A Poke Theory, we’ve got great news! Alter Ego also serves a variety of Poke bowls, so expect the same quality of freshly cut fish alongside some yummy toppings.
Some of the bar bites offered here are uniquely Singaporean, retaining that Asian flavour but definitely not compromising on flavour. We tried the Ikan Bilis with cashews and the combination was a perfect blend of sweet and salty! The fried fish skin was crispy and perfectly seasoned, we were totally HOOKED! 11/10 would recommend.
Last but not least, we tried their decadent Berries and Cream dessert bowl. The berries were a harmonious mix of sweet and sour and went perfectly with the huge dollop of whipped cream on top. As a huge fan whipped cream, this dessert has earned itself a seal of approval from me and I would definitely be back for more.
Alter Ego is open till late daily (Fridays till 2am!!), so hit up this spot for a casual drink with friends after a long week cause you deserve the good stuff!
