It is a rare sight to meet someone who is not a fan of Thai food. The numerous amounts of spices, the perfect balance of sweet, sour and spicy, it’s a cuisine that everyone loves. But yet, finding authentic Thai food is not the easiest of tasks. Our sunny island is littered with Thai places like Nakhon Kitchen and Soi Thai. We even have our own little Thailand in Golden Mile Complex, but yet it can be quite a hassle to find good and authentic Thai food here. What if I told you, that you can get world class, authentic Thai Food from a vending machine? (yes you read that right, a vending machine.) The second edition to the Chef-In-Box World Chef Series, Chef Jeerapom from Thailand has curated these dishes for all of us to enjoy in the comfort of our own home. Plus, Chef Jeerapom has cooked for Thai royalty so you know this is the real deal.
Stir-Fried Basil Chicken with Green Curry Fried Rice ($8.80)
Basil chicken has slowly risen in the ranks of Thai food and has become a must order at any Thai Place. Juicy bits of minced chicken cooked with the right amount of spice to give it that Thai kick that it needs, this is a great dish to be enjoyed with rice. However, when you order this from the vendcafe, you will not be getting white rice but instead, Green Curry fried rice! Each rice grain is perfumed with the green curry and gives the dish a more earthy and hearty feel. With spices flown in from Thailand, there is no way you are going wrong with this dish.
Green Curry Prawn with Rice ($8.80)
Another mainstay of Thai cuisine, the Green Curry. Best enjoyed (in my humble opinion) when drenched in rice, this Green Curry is smooth, rich and as full bodied as any curry that you get straight from the kitchen. Though many usually order Green Curry with chicken, the prawns in the curry actually make for an interesting added texture. The prawns were juicy and had absorbed all the flavour from the Green Curry but yet still held it’s bite and firmness. If you are looking for something to curb that Thai food craving, this will do the trick.
Stir-Fried Red Curry Chicken with Rice ($8.80)
Red Curry is the lesser known sibling of Green Curry. They both hold the same essence of flavour, coconutty and full flavoured, but the main difference is in the spice level. Red curry is the spiciest of all traditional Thai curries but fret not this won’t burn your tastebuds off like those clear tom yam soups! This version of Red Curry comes in more of a sauce than a curry. Stir fried together with juicy pieces of chicken, the spicy red curry hits your straight at the front of your mouth but will quickly fizzle out. Paired with white rice, this dish brings forth all the things we love about Thai food in one!
Thai Fried Rice with Saba Fish ($8.80)
Every where around the world, fried rice is prepared differently, same goes for this. The Thai fried rice has a slightly sour yet spicy taste enveloped within it. It taste slightly reminiscent of Green Curry fried rice but yet in a world of it’s own. The rice is cooked with a medley of assorted vegetables and also served with a fillet of Saba Fish. The fish is fried together with Basil leaves to give it an added layer of flavour. The juicy and flaky fish is well suited to our Singaporean palates but yet complements the fried rice perfectly.
