If you are looking for a hole-in-wall, hipster kinda cafe, we have one just for you! Hidden in Thomson V One, Nook & Cranny might be an easy cafe to miss if you aren’t paying attention. This little cafe is decorated to feel cosy but still bright and full or natural daylight. The small setting is good for intimate meals or a nice get together with your close friends.
The menu is small but mighty, with an array of classic cafe dishes like breakfast platters, eggs Benedict and a variety of pastas. But what makes them stand out is the little eccentric bits and pieces here and there in their dishes. For example, their signature Chicken Bleu is a classic Cordon Bleu but served with a side of Orzo Rice Pasta. Making this the perfect hipster places for all your food-tagrams.
Hearty Breakfast ($16)
We kicked off our meal with an obvious choice, the Hearty Breakfast. Served full with roasted vine tomatoes, bratwurst sausage, bacon, ham and scrambled eggs, this is definitely. great way to start of your day. The eggs were nice and creamy and the brioche toast was toasted to perfection which gave the dish a good range of textures and flavours. Pile the ingredients up onto the toast and you get the best of the dish in a single bite.
Truffled Mac & Cheese ($14.50)
An atas twist to everyone’s favourite Mac & Cheese but at the same price, Nook & Cranny’s truffled mac & cheese is a definite must try. The macaroni is done well and the cheese melts in your mouth with every spoonful. It isn’t too cheesy to overpower your palate and the taste of the truffle is ever present with each bite. Though the truffle smell is strong when served, don’t worry as the taste doesn’t overpower the cheese.
Chicken Quesadilla ($13.90)
This is their “self-declared, award winning” Chicken Quesadilla. So, we were expecting some spectacular flavour in this. Presentation wise, it looks like every other quesadilla, heck, there are better looking ones out there. But look pass the presentation and you’re in for a pretty decent treat. It is filled generously with melted cheese and chunks of chicken, and their special cheesy BBQ sauce? Pretty BBQ-y alright. Overall this dish was spectacular per say but it did satisfy our tummies.
Truffle Fries ($8.50)
Okay truffle fries, what’s so special right? Well, instead of regular straight cut fries, it is substituted out for Sweet Potato Fries. A great way to stand out from the crowd, who knew thats sweet potato fries would work so well with truffle mayo? and yes, this is really truffle mayo. Even with the slightest dip, the truffle taste is ever strong and present. The fries were a little too soggy and limp for our liking but still the overall flavour of the dish was good enough for us to overlook that.
Nook & Cranny also has some pretty decent drinks to go along with your mains, they also have draft beer! We got the Hot Japanese Matcha Latte, Ribena Lychee Fizz and Toasty’s. All unique and specialty drinks, each drink presented us with a different texture and flavour profile. If you are feeling like getting something refreshing or something rich, they’ve got choices for all!
Overall, Nook & Cranny may look like your average Joe but don’t be shy and step in for a treat! Their special twists on standard cafe food will definitely satisfy your stomach.
