Healthy living is all the rage now and everyone is looking for affordable options to get their daily dosage of fresh greens and lean meat. Ever thought of using fermented foods instead of going on the constant hunt for fresh food? Yes I know, fermented food sounds a little dodgy or maybe even gross cause of the negative connotation that is generally associated with it. And that is exactly what The Cultured People is out to curb.

The Cultured People was formed by a group of 4 who have a passion in reinventing classic flavours into probiotic high foods. They currently are just an e-commerce stall, with a range of fermented sides and drinks which are the perfect addition to your meals!

This is one for those who love something acidic, sour and spice-y. This Caribbean inspired salsa is a great blend of Indian and Hawaiian flavours, this was one of my top favourites from the range. The pineapple had hit the perfect ripeness – the in between of sweet yet sour. After you let the pineapple taste simmer down in your mouth, the taste of coriander comes through and then the hit of cumin. The cumin taste is stronger than one would expect but added a great earthiness and spice factor to the salsa which sets it apart from other salsa. Perfect to pair with plain biscuits / chips as a snack, or even together with seafood and chicken!

Everyone is familiar with the taste of Kimchi. Tart and acidic flavours paired with crunchy napa cabbage is what most of us go for. Though slightly less crunchy and less sour, The Cultured People’s Lotus root kimchi taste exceptionally similar to freshly made kimchi. Mixed in are lotus root, carrots and white radish, common staples found in our everyday markets. The look that they were going for here was Korean inspired but made with local produce found on our sunny island. Along with a nice blend of chilli, fish sauce, ginger and garlic, this Korean jar is perfect with a bowl of white rice or meat.

If you love tomatoes, you are bound to love this. The rich abundance of tomatoes both in actual ingredients and flavour makes this jar full of juice-y goodness. After the sweet tomatoes, comes the slight heat from the peppers which elevate the dish in your mouth. Mixed in are also many other ingredients like olives and onions to help blend and smoothen out the various flavours. The tangy taste from this side is perfect to be matched with almost anything! From pastas and salads to even dressings for salad and grilled fish, this is made for you to relish in its glory!
